Propane Installation Procedures

NEW! R290 Propane Material Safety Data Sheet

Propane (or LPG) is one of the nations most versatile energy sources. It's clean and efficient as well as abundant and available. Propane is ideal for all agriculture, commercial and residential applications.

Propane is a clean, odorless, non-toxic gas, which burns cleaner than any fossil fuel. It is also environmentally friendly and, if released into the atmosphere, propane evaporates quickly and does not contaminate ground water or cause potential health risks. Propane also meets the Clean Air Act standards under CAAA guidelines.

Because propane is an abundant, available resource, there is enough to supply your needs for a very long time to come. As an energy source, it is "here to stay." Propane is a by-product of natural gas and crude oil through the refining process, a distinct odor is added for leak detection purposes. Propane is safer than natural gas but it is still flammable however; so special care and precautions must be taken for your safety just like other fuels.

Did you know that propane is used by more than 60 million individuals across the U.S. with industries using the most fuel, then residential consumers, and finally agriculture? Because propane burns clean, it is the preferred fuel for forklift trucks and 4% of the nation's automobiles are using it too.

Unlike natural gas, you can take advantage of off-season propane rates by price capping or pre-buying. This could save you hundreds of dollars over the course of a year. The advantage is that your price will never go up as demand increases during the heating season.

Propane is transported to us in large volume by means of rail, tankers and pipelines for storage in bulk tanks. Delivery method to the end user is usually by means of bobtail (shown above) or transports.

End user storage tanks range from 47.5-gallon tanks all the way up to 30,000. For instance:

  • Cooking Only - "E" Tank, #200 - 47.5 gallons
  • Water, Cooking, Dryer or Secondary Heat - "Q" Tank, #420 - 100 Gallons
  • Cooking, Fireplace, Water, Dryer - 2 "Q" Tanks, 2 - #420's - Total Capacity 200 Gallons
  • Home Heating/Water Only - #330, 275 gallons or 2 "Q" Tanks
  • "Fab Four" - Home Heating, Cooking, Dryer & Water - #500 - Total Capacity 400 Gallons

Keep in mind that tank sizes are based on consumption and they are allocated on a case-by-case basis. Since our delivery schedule revolves around a 30 or 45-day cycle, our rates are based on usage. "Cooking Only" demands the highest rate with "Home Heating" being the lowest (simply because the volume of use is greater).

From time to time, our Account Executives have special promotional rates available which may be somewhat different than our year-round call-in rates. Call today to inquire.

Please Note - Because propane is a commodity on the open market resulting in unexpected price changes, we are unable to post current rates on our site.
